Like al Qaeda, Hezbollah happily accepts the deaths of Arab civilians and its own fighters to accomplish its mission. And Israel's government, even though it's smarter than ours (at least Lebanon, unlike Iraq, had something to do with the initial attack), quickly fell into the trap.

It's like that smart bastard in junior high who could provoke a nice kid into striking back -- and it's the nice kid who gets in trouble.
